Dear EHPS Community,
As we prepare for the final week of school, I want to congratulate our students on a fantastic year of growth and achievement. As a reminder, we conclude the year with early dismissals on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
To ensure our students continue to "Explore, Empower, and Achieve" during the break, we are excited to invite you to visit our website to view the newly featured East Haven Summer Learning Opportunities. These resources are designed to help students maintain academic momentum and foster the self-direction necessary for lifelong success.
We also encourage you to take advantage of local community resources, such as the programs at Hagaman Memorial Library and storytime at the Shore Line Trolley Museum.
Thank you for your continued partnership. Let’s make this a strong finish to the school year and a summer of discovery and growth!
In partnership,
Adam Swinney

One of the favorite cherished graduation traditions is the Senior Walk, when high school graduating seniors return to their elementary schools dressed in their caps and gowns. As they walk the halls where their educational journey began, they are greeted by former teachers, staff, and young students who look on with admiration and inspiration. The Senior Walk is a powerful reflection of our Vision of the Graduate, showcasing the growth, perseverance, character, and achievement that students develop throughout their years in East Haven Public Schools. It serves as a full-circle moment, celebrating how far our graduates have come while inspiring the next generation to envision their own future success.
Congratulations to the class of 2026! As you turn the page to this exciting new chapter, may you move forward with confidence, curiosity, and the courage to chase every opportunity that lies ahead.

The CABE Student Leadership Awards Program recognizes Connecticut middle and high school students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, responsibility, and a strong commitment to their school communities. In our district, we continue to see remarkable resilience and leadership from students every day, with student voice playing an essential role in shaping positive school culture and decision-making.
Through this program, East Haven Public Schools had the opportunity to honor up to two students per school, celebrating those who lead by example, support their peers, and contribute meaningfully both inside and outside the classroom.
This year we recognized the following students who consistently model responsibility, integrity, initiative, and positive influence among their peers:
- Chloe Batson, Gr. 8 EHA
- Nicholas Cinquino, Gr. 11 EHHS
- Kiley Mazzucco, Gr. 11 EHHS

Anthony Lacen’s high school career reflects perseverance, resilience, and personal growth. A four-year member of the East Haven baseball program, he worked hard to earn a varsity starting role and was recognized for his dedication by being named a team captain as a senior. He also demonstrated determination on the football field, returning for his senior season to earn a starting position and make key contributions, including two interceptions. In addition to baseball and football, Anthony competed in indoor track for three years as a hurdler and relay runner, helping East Haven’s 4x200-meter relay team reach the state championships during his senior year.
As he looked toward the future, Anthony found his calling through conversations with an Army recruiter and was inspired by the opportunities military service could provide. He has enlisted in the United States Army and will begin training later this month to become a Combat Medic. Anthony leaves East Haven High School as an example of persistence, growth, and dedication. We congratulate him on his accomplishments and thank him for his commitment to our school community. We wish him continued success as he begins this exciting new chapter of service in the United States Army.

As the school year comes to a close, use this prompt to reflect with your child on their growth, friendships, challenges, favorite memories, and hopes for summer in a fun and meaningful way:

Our first & second graders from Tuttle and second graders from Deer Run had a wonderful trip to the Shore Line Trolley Museum, where they helped plant in the community garden.
Through this hands-on experience, students practiced all five of our Vision of the Graduate skills, showing teamwork, responsibility, problem-solving, and care for their community. We’re proud of the way they brought these skills to life—not just planting seeds, but helping grow a stronger community.
|
They showed they were responsible citizens by caring for the earth and helping a shared space. They used clear communication to work in teams, listen carefully, and share ideas. With informed thinking, they talked about what plants need and how to help them grow. When problems came up, like limited space or bumpy soil, they used creative problem-solving to figure things out. And by sticking with their work from start to finish, they showed resilience and stayed focused on their goal!
|
|
Deer Run students visited the East Haven Food Pantry, where they learned about our Vision of the Graduate attribute of being a Responsible Citizen through hands-on acts of kindness and service. Students decorated distribution bags with cheerful messages and artwork, filled the bags with donated food items they helped collect, and attached family recipes to share with recipients. Through these meaningful activities, students learned that responsible citizens care for others, contribute to their community, and use small acts of compassion to make a big difference in people’s lives.
|
Deer Run students visited the newly re-opened Hagaman Memorial Library, where they participated in a Q&A session with our town’s Mayor and Youth Services Librarian! Students asked thoughtful questions connected to our Vision of the Graduate attributes of Informed Thinking and Powerful & Effective Communicating. Through the discussion, students learned that strong communication is not just about speaking clearly, but also about listening, asking meaningful questions, and understanding different perspectives. They also discovered how informed thinkers use curiosity, learning, and community resources, like libraries, to make thoughtful decisions and positively impact the world around them.
|
|
Deer Run’s Grade 2 students worked together to organize a bottle collection at their school to raise money for important organizations in the East Haven community, including the Food Pantry, Shoreline Trolley Museum, Hagaman Memorial Library, and the local animal shelter. Together, the students raised an incredible $345! Each student will now have the opportunity to help decide where their portion of the donation will go, giving them a voice in supporting causes that matter to them. Through this meaningful experience, students learned that even small actions can make a big difference and that responsible citizens help strengthen and care for the East Haven community through kindness, teamwork, and service.
|
Our family survey is more than just feedback: it helps guide real conversations and meaningful change across our schools. A dedicated team carefully reviews survey responses and meets with school teams to celebrate strengths, identify needs, and improve the experience for students and families. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts so we can continue growing our EHPS community. Thank you!

Our school district and community has recently seen an increase in phishing attempts targeting school staff, students, and community members. These scams often appear as emails, text messages, or social media posts from trusted sources with familiar names. Scams can appear to come from schools, banks, government agencies and religious organizations with the goal of stealing personal information or login credentials.
Please use caution when opening unexpected messages, clicking links, or downloading attachments. Be especially wary of messages that create urgency, ask for passwords or financial information, or direct you to unfamiliar websites.
Staying informed and vigilant is one of the best ways to protect yourself and our school community from cyber threats. Please click this link for helpful tips and reminders to avoid these scams. Together, we can keep our community safe. When in doubt - don't click, don't reply, and don't hesitate to ask for help.
