Dear EHPS Community,
As we begin our holiday recess, we are excited to highlight Learning Adventures—a fantastic way to strengthen the connection between school and home while keeping the spirit of learning alive!
These engaging activities are specifically designed to inspire connection, engagement, and essential skill-building across all age levels. Every Learning Adventure directly ties back to the development of our East Haven Vision of the Graduate attributes, ensuring that activities outside the classroom reinforce the skills and mindsets we cultivate within our schools.
They are a great opportunity for learners of all ages to explore, create, and build skills during the break. We encourage you to check them out as a source of fun, educational inspiration. And, don't forget to submit your adventure story to Stephanie Rivellini for a chance to win a raffle prize! (see below)
I look forward to welcoming students back for the start of a new year, but until then, I'm wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season!
In partnership,
Adam Swinney, Interim Superintendent

On Tuesday evening, Lauren Condosta was recognized by the CT Commissioner of Education as East Haven's Teacher of the Year. A dedicated member of the JMMS faculty, Lauren was selected in the spring by a committee of her peers to represent our district.
Reflected in the comments of Tammy Afragola, EHPS Teacher of the Year Facilitator, "Lauren’s career is a testament to what it means to be an educator — leading with both heart and intellect. She inspires her students, supports her colleagues, and enriches our entire school community." Please join us in congratulating her on this prestigious honor!

This month, students at Overbrook Early Learning Center participated in a winter unit of study centered on The Mitten, developing early literacy, sequencing, and oral language skills aligned with the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards. Through intentional, hands-on winter learning centers, children further strengthened fine-motor development, creativity, and collaborative skills.
Classroom learning was meaningfully extended beyond the school day through a Family Resource Center Holiday Event held at East Haven High School. In partnership with local organizations, including the Community Dining Room, Overbrook supported more than 230 families through shared meals, children’s activities, gifts, and access to community resources. This event reinforced social-emotional development, family engagement, and strong community connections, reflecting Overbrook’s commitment to supporting the whole child.

Kamiyah Marsh’s dedication to track and field began even before she officially became a student at East Haven High School. Committed to the sport from the start, Kamiyah found a way to be part of the program despite the challenges of transferring from her previous school, often arriving to practice late because her school day ended when practice was already underway. Her perseverance never wavered, and her commitment spoke volumes.
Kamiyah began competing during the outdoor season of her freshman year and has been a consistent contributor to both the indoor and outdoor track programs ever since. A versatile and hardworking athlete, she has competed in multiple events, including shot put, discus, and the 200 meters. This year, her leadership and dedication earned her the role of Captain of the Girls Throws Team.
Her growth as an athlete has been remarkable. Kamiyah qualified for the CIAC State Championships during both the indoor and outdoor seasons in both shot put and discus outdoors. Over the past two years, she has improved her discus throw by more than 60 feet, a testament to her work ethic and the guidance of her coaches.
Kamiyah credits much of her success to the unwavering support of her family and the EHHS coaching staff. She is especially grateful to Coach Dunne, Coach Vicario, Coach Loehmann, and Coach Martinez, who have continually pushed her beyond her comfort zone. They helped her reach goals she once thought were unattainable not just for herself, but for her teammates as well. Kamiyah Marsh exemplifies perseverance, leadership, and growth, making her a true asset to the East Haven Track & Field program and a deserving Spotlight Athlete.

Through your generous donations to Connecticut Children’s, EHPS families demonstrated the values we strive to instill in our students every day. By coming together around a shared goal, you showed care for others, thoughtful action, and the power of working collectively to make a difference.
This spirit of collaboration sets the stage for even more opportunities for families and schools to learn and grow together! Check out our Family Learning Adventures for December. (see above)

Several classes across the district decorated holiday-themed bags and cards for our East Haven Food Pantry! We are proud to see our students showing generosity and community spirit by helping families in need this season.
