Dear EHPS Community,
One of the most important ways we can work together is by focusing on consistent school attendance. Every day in school provides essential learning and skill-building. When a student misses 10% or more of the school year, they risk becoming chronically absent. This significantly hinders their long-term academic growth, affects classroom momentum, and impacts their peers' learning.
Your partnership is key to reducing this risk and ensuring success for all.
Navigating Cold & Flu Season
We recognize and respect the important and often difficult decisions families make about sending a child to school during cold and flu season. To help you protect your child and the school community, we have provided guidance documents below that clearly outline when to keep your child home and when it is safe to return.
If you face any barriers to consistent attendance (health, transportation, etc.), please know that your child's school stands ready to assist. Our staff is committed to helping you find solutions.
Thank you for prioritizing your child's presence in the classroom. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy December!
In partnership,
Adam Swinney, Interim Superintendent

Alexandria Flynn is a student who represents drive, curiosity, and a genuine passion for learning. She is a committed member of the EHHS Maritime Program, where she explores the science and technology behind marine environments. Her participation demonstrates not only academic curiosity but a willingness to embrace hands-on, real-world experiences.
Alexandria is also a member of HOSA, where she continues to refine her knowledge in the health sciences and strengthen her leadership skills. In addition, she participates in the Drama Club, contributing her creativity and confidence to each performance. She is also active in the Science Club, where her interest for scientific inquiry truly shines.
Her diverse involvement paints the picture of a student who is well-rounded, hardworking, and passionate about learning in many forms. What truly sets Alexandria apart is her clear vision for the future. She aspires to become a veterinarian, a goal that perfectly reflects her compassion, responsibility, and commitment to caring for others—values that align closely with Rotary’s own mission of service.
Alexandria, your determination, your involvement in so many enriching programs, and your enthusiasm for your future career make you an exceptional choice for this honor. On behalf of the East Haven Rotary, congratulations on being named Student of the Month. We are proud of you and excited to see all that you will accomplish.

After an interactive read aloud of the text, 'If You Were an Adjective', written by Michael Dahl, families worked together to explore the wonders of descriptive language. With lots of shared laughs, this bilingual literacy event supported everyone to play Clever Connections and the Mystery Box Game, both emphasizing the importance of playing with language.
Keep an eye out for upcoming family literacy events at our elementary schools where all attending students get to shop for a book to take home!

This week, EHHS students in the EDRising program worked with 3rd grade students from Ferrara Elementary to teach the significance of design thinking and story elements. These emerging educators practiced learning prompts that place the critical thinking back on their students.
After reading, I Need My Monster, 3rd graders developed their own "monster" and used story grammar to plan an original creative narrative. Building upon their narrative writing in Trimester 1, students are challenged to turn their drafts into a final submission by Winter Break!

For senior Olivia Moody, joining the EHHS Pom Pom Team was a leap of faith, one fueled by courage, curiosity, and the encouragement of a friend. “It took me a lot of courage to try out for the EHHS Pom Pom Team, and I honestly went into it expecting nothing, but here I am today,” Olivia shared. Olivia quickly discovered that she had found her place among “amazing teammates and fantastic coaches.”
Inspired by senior captain Diana Melnyk, Olivia decided it was time to take a chance. Though she had danced from the age of two until stopping suddenly at thirteen, Olivia found herself missing the creativity, expression, and excitement that dance once brought her.
Returning to that world wasn’t easy, but the challenge proved to be transformative. "Stepping back into the scene was a bit of a challenge for me, but I am so glad that I did because I feel like I have truly flourished as an athlete and as a person as well,” Olivia reflected.
With a balance of sportsmanship, energy, and undeniable flair, Olivia continues to grow both on and off the floor. She has rediscovered her passion and gained a team she now considers family. Each practice and performance deepens her love for the sport and the people who make it so meaningful.
