Dear EHPS Community,

As we continue into the 2025-26 school year and begin this next phase together, I want to extend a huge thank you for your partnership. Your involvement is key to our students' success.

We are nearly finished with beginning-of-year assessments. These assessments are not about grades; instead, they provide our educators with valuable information that allows them to tailor instruction to meet each student where they are and prepare them for their next steps in learning. We appreciate your support in helping to convey the purpose and importance of this process.

Additionally, we want to hear from you! Please take a few minutes to fill out our anonymous Community Needs Survey (click the yellow survey button below). Your input will guide our Family Resource Center's programs, inform family engagement efforts, and support our efforts to secure additional grant funding that benefits East Haven.

Thank you again for all you do.

In partnership,
Adam Swinney, Interim Superintendent

Tuttle's 'We Love America Day'

Grove J. Tuttle Elementary School holds a We Love America Day in remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001. The school displays their American spirit and wears red, white and blue. The students walk from their school to Town Hall for a program that includes singing, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and remarks from dignitaries. The program is student run, with students performing as Master of Ceremonies, reading speeches, leading the group and parading back and forth to Tuttle School.

This event honors the memories of the tragic day but also brings us together to show the resilience of the American spirit. Tuttle school continues to both pay respect to the day and help others understand how it shaped who we are as Americans.

EHHS Marching Band's First Competition This Weekend!

The 2025 East Haven Co-op Marching Band is beginning their season with their first competition this Saturday at East Lyme High School. Last year's 2024 National Champion season was one for the history books. Almost half of last year's band graduated as seniors.

This year begins a new era under EHHS Band Director Steve Wolf with tons of new members, almost all new instructional staff, new parent volunteer organization, and a new approach to show design. Everyone is looking forward to the challenge!

This year's show is based on the hit Broadway show "Hadestown" which tells the famous tragic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. It will be a cross between musical theater and marching band, and it won't be like anything you've seen on a marching band field before!

Details for this year's competition schedule are below, and info about the EHHS Marching Band can always be found on their website:

Kelsey Hinckley – East Haven Volleyball

East Haven High School senior Kelsey Hinckley has been a staple on the volleyball court since middle school. Having first picked up the sport in sixth grade, Kelsey has dedicated countless hours to improving her game, both during the school season and by playing club volleyball at Nova.

Kelsey credits her passion for the sport to her biggest supporter, her mom. “My mom has always encouraged me on the court and has dedicated her life to volleyball,” Kelsey shared. “She’s the reason I fell in love with the game.”

For Kelsey, volleyball has been more than just a sport — it’s been a life lesson that carries over into her academics. “Volleyball has taught me that failure isn’t the end. If I make a mistake, I can try again — and that mindset helps me in school, too,” she explained.

Kelsey takes pride in being a leader on and off the court. “I’m not a captain, but I still try to lead my team,” she said. “I want to be someone my teammates can rely on." Kelsey continues to inspire her teammates with her determination and positive attitude, proving that leadership isn’t just about a title — it’s about how you show up for your team every day.

Fire & Crisis Safety Drills

Per CT General Statute 10-231 schools will perform monthly fire and/or ALICE crisis response drills. Students will practice how to quickly exit the building or get to designated safety areas. During an actual emergency, both evacuation and safety are the first priorities.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Strong attendance is directly tied to academic success. Please help us by making school attendance a top priority for your child. Missing more than 2 days of school per month places a student in the category of being chronically absent—something we work hard to prevent, since attendance impacts learning at every stage of a child’s education.

  • Preschool: Building strong routines around attendance starts early. Even at age 3, developing the habit of coming to school every day sets the foundation for a child’s future success.
  • Elementary School: Research shows that students who miss more than 2 days per month are at risk of not reading on grade level by the end of grade 3—a key milestone for future achievement.
  • Middle School: Consistent attendance helps students stay connected to their peers, prepared for daily lessons, and ready to take on more rigorous coursework that builds the bridge to high school success.
  • High School: Attendance is directly tied to credit. Missing too many days of school may result in loss of course credit, which can prevent students from staying on track to graduate within four years. Daily attendance is one of the strongest indicators of graduating on time and being prepared for college, career, or the military.

Let’s partner together to ensure that every child attends school regularly and has the best possible opportunity to achieve.
