East Haven High School senior Kelsey Hinckley has been a staple on the volleyball court since middle school. Having first picked up the sport in sixth grade, Kelsey has dedicated countless hours to improving her game, both during the school season and by playing club volleyball at Nova.
Kelsey credits her passion for the sport to her biggest supporter, her mom. “My mom has always encouraged me on the court and has dedicated her life to volleyball,” Kelsey shared. “She’s the reason I fell in love with the game.”
For Kelsey, volleyball has been more than just a sport — it’s been a life lesson that carries over into her academics. “Volleyball has taught me that failure isn’t the end. If I make a mistake, I can try again — and that mindset helps me in school, too,” she explained.
Kelsey takes pride in being a leader on and off the court. “I’m not a captain, but I still try to lead my team,” she said. “I want to be someone my teammates can rely on." Kelsey continues to inspire her teammates with her determination and positive attitude, proving that leadership isn’t just about a title — it’s about how you show up for your team every day.
