One School, One Read
Mrs. Purnell, Tuttle School's Reading Specialist, organized the school wide event for the month of March. It was intended to foster reading; each student received their own personal copy. Every day, the classroom teacher read one chapter of a novel entitled The Cricket in Times Square to the class. On Friday, March 30 a school wide culminating event took place during the day as students presented their area of study based on the book. The gymnasium was transformed into Central Park. Students brought a towel to sit on for lunch. The afternoon program consisted of musical performances of exerpts from the novel, a concert by various students and staff, and watching the animated movie while enjoying Italian ice and soft pretzels. On the following Tuesday evening parents, staff and students were invited to experience Central Park with a potluck dinner and tour of "New York". We want to thank the parents who contributed their time and efforts to this wonderful event! For more information on this event, check out Mrs. Purnell's class page. (For more details and pictures, visit Mrs. Purnell's webpage by clicking the link called "Learn About Each Classroom".)
