East Haven High School provides for students with special needs in a variety of settings. Students identified as requiring special education services under the current federal and state guidelines are placed in programs based on their Individualized Education Plan, as determined by the Planning and Placement Team.

COURSE OFFERINGS
The following programs are currently in place at East Haven High School:
RESOURCE
The resource program provides students with academic support for mainstream content area classes, as well as assistance in developing study strategies and organizational skills.
COLLABORATION/CONSULTATION MODEL
Special Education staff and/or paraprofessionals work in collaboration with general education teachers to support special education students in the general education curricula Support may be provided through consultation with general education teachers or through direct instructional time in the general education classrooms. These services are provided as per the student’s Individual Education Plan, through the PPT process.
PATHWAYS I
The Pathways I program serves the social/emotional and academic needs of students transitioning into the mainstream high school population. Students are placed in the program on either a part-time or full-time basis.
EDUCATIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM
The E.W.E. program is designed to develop academic, social, personal, and vocational skills. The program focuses on functional reading, math, and writing skills as well as personal health and hygiene. In addition, the life skills and vocational components of the program concentrate on practical skills needed for assisted or independent living.
